Meet Fauna, a sweet and spunky 2 year-old French Bulldog who weighs in at around 20 pounds.
Fauna needs an experienced and patient adopter who is willing to put in the work. Slow introductions are key to helping her feel secure and confident and to get to know a new person or animal. She has done great with her foster family and 3 other relaxed low key pups and meeting countless new people with proper/slow introductions and lots of kissy noises so she knows someone is there.
She is great with new people once she gets to know them and is looking for that someone who understands that at no point in her life has she been able to see anything. She can startle easy with new people, new dogs, and new environments of things happen to quickly or come at a surprise to her. Despite having microphthalmia (under developed eyes from birth) she does manage to navigate her familiar environments with ease. In new places she comes with a halo to help her learn and to protect her noggin. Her special someone should also understand that sharp corners and dangers to her eyes/head trauma does exist. She responds well with commands such as easy (for her own safety; steps, obstacles or to have her slow down from a trot), has been known to sit for treats and loves a good car ride especially if it involves a pup cup. She is still working on walking on lead with her harness but
doesn't always trust where she's going. Fauna makes for a great companion around the house or even office. She is crate trained as well as potty trained, when she goes outside it's a very quick business trip. Fauna would be great for a person whom works from home or can bring her with (pending environment). Blind dogs rely on sound and it's best when she's away from the city, traffic and extraneous noises.
Fauna is intelligent and will thrive with ongoing training while she learns your house rules and how to get around. She's a great eater and knows when/where to get water as needed. Fauna enjoys structure and thrives on routine as well as strong leadership that is looking out for her. She appreciates time to adapt to new places and would feel most comfortable in a quiet home.
Fauna may also have mild hydrocephalus and is currently receiving over the counter Omeprazole twice daily and prescription eye drops once daily to help fight infection and lubricate her eyes.
