Azteca is an incredibly handsome, 14-month-old, black and tan, male, German Shepherd Dog. He arrived into rescue when his owners were losing their home. Azteca is in a foster home with other dogs and absolutely loves every dog he has met so far. He regards all dogs he meets as his new playmates and he is very vocal when he’s excited to meet them! Azteca would love a home with another high energy young German Shepherd.

When Azteca arrived in our care, it was apparent that he had some basic training in his previous home. His foster home is working very diligently with him to continue his training, and his ideal home would be dedicated to taking him to formal training. Azteca is very eager to please and he is food motivated, which helps with training. Azteca also loves to eat—and he eats a lot! He is a little overweight. (Who isn’t right now!!) But that can be managed with a proper diet and exercise in his new home.

Azteca has a great, funny, personality and likes to talk to his foster parents and foster sibling dogs. He'll make very silly moans and groans and even does it when you pet his belly. Azteca is a problem-solver and is high energy; he loves to solve everything you throw his way. He's very ball- and tug-motivated, and his favorite treat is peanut butter in a Kong. Azteca is a chewer and shredder with soft toys, so unless you want to see how quickly he can destroy a plush dog toy, it would be best to keep his toys on the more durable side.

We are looking for an applicant who has owned shepherds and has taken their previous or current German Shepherd through training. Azteca will excel in continued training in his new home, so we want to ensure that his adopter has been through training before with their own dogs. Azteca has not lived with small dogs or children, so we are looking for a home without both. He has lived with a cat and is currently in a home with a cat. Azteca will thrive in agility and mastered his first agility course in one day. He would love a very active adopter who loves to jog or hike. Sorry! Azteca isn’t suitable in an apartment / condo / townhouse. He needs a house with a secure fenced yard.

We would love to hear from you if you think Azteca is a dog you are ready for!

If you would like to adopt Azteca, please submit an adoption application today!
